Cleve has been playing
drums since 1961.
He plays multiple
styles: Jazz, Funk, Latin (Brazil and Cuban) rhythms, Rock, Fusion, R&B, etc.
Cleve has been playing
major venues in the Phoenix area with convention support groups and has been a
show player since 1981.
As a show player, Cleve
has played with such names as Roger Williams, Maureen McGovern, the Lawrence
Welk troupe, Bob Hope, George Burns, Jerry Vale, Al Martino, Carol Channing,
Sherry Lewis, Sadler and Young, Blackstone the Magician, Eddie Fisher, Shirley
Jones, the Diamonds, Leslie Gore, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield, Danny Gans,
Perry Como, Dom DeLuise, Frankie Carle and many more. Cleve is a
contracted show player, playing venues in the Phoenix area and all around
Arizona.
Cleve has played with
groups such as The Harry James Tribute Band, Guy
Lombardo Royal Canadian Band, Les Brown Tribute Band, Mike Vax with Jack
Peterson, Barney Kessel, Jimmy Dorsey Tribute Band, Sonny Stitt, Wild Bill
Davidson, Art Van Damme, Scott Whitfield, Ginger Berglund, Steve Hufsteder, the Phoenix Pops
Orchestra with Doc Severinsen, the Prescott Jazz Summit, and more.
Cleve has been a private
instructor in the Valley since 1981 and is currently on staff teaching at Music
Masters since 1987. Cleve has also taught at the Creative Drum Shop owned
by Jim Zupancic from 1981 to 1985. Since 1982, Cleve has been a member of
the adjunct faculty for private instruction at Scottsdale Community College.
You can catch Cleve
working with Jazz Alive and Delphine Cortez and as the regular drummer for the
"Diva" Shows featuring Margo Reed, Sherry Roberson, Nancy G. and Delphine
Cortez. The band features local artist bass players such as Dwight
Killian, Ted Sistrunk, Bob Lashier and pianist Joel Robin. This band also
includes jazz tenor sax player Jerry Donato.
Joel,
Delphine and Cleve have performed at the Glendale Gaslight Inn and Oscar Taylors.
Currently this group is performing at
Luci's Healthy Marketplace on Saturday nights. Frequently
local players stop by, bring their "axes" and sit and play. Notable
players such as Judy Roberts, Jim Martinez, Jack Peterson, Dan Pinson and many
others sat in on many of Cleve's sessions.
When you heard live
music
at Nordstrom's in Scottsdale, you were listening to Cleve play with Richard Palalay and Trio 380. This band also featured Felix Sainz and Brent
Mendoza.
